The Trade Where Geography Beats Everything
Pool service runs on route density more than almost any other local business. A technician cleaning eight pools within a two-mile radius earns dramatically more per day than one covering the same eight spread across a metro, and the difference is drive time nobody bills for. This has a direct consequence for search strategy that most pool companies miss: a customer in the neighborhood you already service is worth substantially more than an identical customer twenty minutes away, and your marketing should be far more geographically specific than your service area map suggests.
The revenue itself divides three ways. Weekly or biweekly service is the recurring base and the reason the business is financeable. Repairs are episodic — pumps, filters, heaters, salt cells, automation — and they carry the margins. Green pool recovery is its own strange category: high urgency, high price, and frequently a customer who has just fired someone or bought a house with a neglected pool. That last one is the fastest path from search to a recurring account, and it is the one most companies handle as an afterthought.
Seasonality is regional to the point that generic advice is worthless. In year-round markets the calendar is about heat waves, algae blooms, and equipment failing under continuous load. In seasonal markets the entire year is decided in a short opening window, with closing revenue in fall and a long quiet stretch in between. The searches that fill a May route happen in March, and the companies that market only when the phone is already ringing are permanently late to their own season.
Equipment replacement deserves separate treatment. A variable-speed pump or a heater is a planned purchase in the thousands, often driven by an efficiency mandate or a utility rebate the customer half understands, and it is researched the way any appliance purchase is researched. Almost no pool service site publishes anything a person in that decision would find useful.
This pack builds neighborhood-level pages that respect route economics, separates recurring service from repair and recovery, and puts the seasonal push where it still has time to work.
